Name every machine so the next shift can find it

A nickname that only one trainer understands is not an asset name. The floor needs a name that survives a handover.
The cable station “by the window” is a useful sentence for ten seconds. It is a poor name the moment someone else is looking for it.
Give every machine a short name and a code. The name is what people say. The code is what the label, the work order, and the history use. GM-214 is enough. “Cable column, strength, floor 1” can sit next to it so a new person does not have to memorise the code.
What a good name contains
- The kind of machine, not the brand slogan.
- The zone, if two of the same kind sit on the floor.
- Nothing that changes when you repaint the wall.
Do not rename a machine because a poster moved. The history is attached to the asset, not to the view from the desk.
When two machines look the same
Number them in the order a person walks the floor, not in the order they were delivered. Left to right, door to back wall, is a walk someone can repeat. Delivery order is a fact only the invoice knows.
Write the name on the file before the first fault arrives. A fault report that says “the broken one” is how the same job gets opened twice.

The model and serial are on a plate on the frame or inside the console bay. Photograph them. If the plate is gone, say so. Do not invent a number.
